Hi, my name is Nila, and I’m raising funds for my husband Ali — a kind, brilliant, and deeply generous man — who is currently in immigration detention despite doing everything legally and in good faith.
Ali came to the US on a student visa to pursue his PhD in Mechanical Engineering. His research focuses on advanced heat-transfer coatings that benefit energy systems and data centers across the US. After publishing in respected journals, he was approved for a National Interest Waiver, and we applied for green cards. While our application was under review, we were granted work and travel authorization.
After Ali graduated, he immediately began working in a job aligned with his research. But on July 21, everything changed when he was unexpectedly detained at our home by immigration officers— even though he has valid authorization to work and stay.
Ali has no criminal record, and has always followed the legal process. We’ve been working closely with an experienced immigration attorney who believes strongly in our case. But the legal costs have quickly added up. We’ve already spent $13,000 and expect total costs to reach $35,000, including legal fees and filing costs. On top of that, we’ve lost our work authorization during this process, making it extremely difficult to cover everyday expenses.
Ali is more than just a scholar — he’s a person who lifts others up. He has helped many international students apply to US universities, guided them through the visa process, and even helped them secure funding. He’s the first to offer support, advice, or encouragement to anyone in need.
We’ve been living in the US for more than six years — studying, working, contributing, and building a peaceful life together. We love this country and have made it our home. All we want is the chance to continue that life, safely and legally.
How You Can Help
Your donation will help us bring Ali home and give us the opportunity to continue fighting for our future. Every dollar brings us closer to stability, freedom, and peace of mind.
Thank you so much for your kindness and support!
Out of concern for our safety and our families back home, we’ve chosen not to share our full names or photos. We hope you understand and still feel our story.
