Erotic Capital Short

Logline:

Set in 1978, three aspiring pornographers produce an adult film with the hope of releasing their content on an increasingly lucrative home video format known as VHS. When filming on the production collapses and the feature flops, the three men are faced with the daunting task of reimbursing a sadistic-loan shark responsible for funding their entire project. As deadly consequences are fast approaching, the trio arrives at their last resort - a bank heist.

Visual Style:

In an effort to fully transport audiences back to 1978 and provide an air of nostalgia, we believe shooting on 35mm film will help yield a look and feel that best captures the era this film is set. We hope to display a visual aesthetic that parallels some of our biggest sources of inspiration, which include A24’s latest film Red Rocket and The Safdie Brothers' Good Time. But the biggest caveat of making this technical choice is that film stock, particularly of this variety, is quite costly. Moreover, we also need access to robust set pieces and wardrobe to bring the authenticity we seek to fruition, and for these reasons, your help would be greatly appreciated.

Budget Breakdown:

The majority of our budget is going towards the camera and film stock. Although the use of film expands creativity and our ability to get the look that we aspire to achieve, it comes at a cost. About 1 hour of 35mm film costs around $2000. Our team thinks that it’s worth it and we will make sure all donations are used to their fullest extent.

Why this story?:

Our objective is to tell a story that examines the ways in which Capitalism teaches men to exploit women’s bodies as a means of monetary gain, and has consequently forced men to adopt hypermasculine tendencies. From the Safdie Brothers' Good Time, to Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs, we hope to create something that reflects our innate love for the heist genre while simultaneously drawing attention to a prevalent culture of toxic masculinity
