Ernie James Dollente Mina - "EJ"

On the evening of February 27th, 2023 Ernie James Dollente Mina - "EJ" 26, was involved in a single-car accident along Highway 17 in Santa Cruz, California. While driving home from work, EJ lost control of his vehicle in the slick rainy weather conditions as he was switching lanes for his exit home. EJ’s car swerved through a metal fence. After crashing through the metal fence, he continued off the highway and subsequently into a tree according to the California Highway Patrol.

EJ was immediately transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (SCVH) in San Jose, CA. He is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in critical condition. He is slowly and steadily recovering from his car accident. He suffered multiple injuries from his accident resulting in the removal of his spleen and a laceration to his kidney. He has had multiple bone fractures in his ribs, a broken pelvis, a fractured femur, and a hairline fracture to his spine. He has head injuries and a collapsed lung from the impact requiring chest tubes and is currently on Life Support. He has had multiple procedures during his short span in the hospital. His family is awaiting for EJ’s vitals to stabilize so the staff at SCVH can undergo a CT and MRI of his brain and brain functionalities.

Initially, his family received bad news as they were told that he may not make it through the night due to the seriousness of his injuries from the accident. But through the graces of God and everyone’s prayers, EJ is thriving and is continuing to fight. EJ is in critical condition and improving more every day. He is making progress but has a long road to recovery.

EJ’s sisters flew from Seattle and his parents took the next available flight from the Philippines to Tokyo and finally to California to be by his bedside.

His family is working with his insurance/work/vehicle/police to tie up any loose ends. As his family navigates through this hardship and difficult time, they are asking for help with EJ’s medical expenses in the ICU.
