Hello Family & Friends,
On April 4th, we were given the news that the mass in Ernest's chest is malignant. Dr Kaplan (Oncologist) had Ernest do more labs, full body scan, and bone marrow to determine what type of cancer we were dealing with and if the cancer has spread.
We returned to Dr Kaplan's office on April 9th to get all the results and it was determined that the tumor had not metastasis. The cancer we were dealing with is called Plasmablastic Lymphoma or Multiple Myeloma which is blood cancer. The origin is currently unknown. The stage is still unknown.
Ernest treatment plan started the following day on Tuesday, April 10th. His treatment days would be scheduled on Tuesday all day and half day on Friday's. Everything was going well so far.
On Thursday, April 19th, Ernest was complaining of shortness of breath so I took him into the emergency room at Swedish First Hill. After waiting 5 hours for his labs, x-ray and CT scan to come back it showed that he had pneumonia and the tumor in his chest was pressing against his respiratory system. This was very concerning for all the doctors who were caring for Ernest as he was uncomfortable and working extra hard to breathe so he was admitted.
Dr Kaplan came by to see Ernest the same day he was admitted and advised that we needed to shrink the tumor fast!
Radiation was added to his treatment plan and he would start the next day on Friday, April 20th. Ernest was hospitalized for five days.
We received good news from the radiologist on Thursday, April 29th that the tumor is shrinking ... Praise God!
Ernest is receiving his treatment care at Swedish Cancer Institute located at 1221 Madison St Seattle, WA 98104. If you would like to sit with him please reach out to Liu.
