Mary Jayne is a sweet and intelligent seven-year-old young lady. She was born with multiple congenital orthopedic disorders. The blanket term is post axial limb bud deficiency, however her doctor typically uses bilateral proximal focal femural deficiency. So far Mary has endured three surgeries and several castings of her lower body. Despite her disorder Mary has managed to function on a high level once she's recovered from her proceedures. She is able to walk, run, and play with the assistance of a lift on her left shoe. One of the reasons she functions so well is because she is determined, strong, and amazing . Mary's functional diagnosis is that she has one leg that is shorter than the other causing balance issues, pain, contractures, fall risk, etc. Mary Jayne has been able to live some what normally for the past 3 1/2 years, but she is about to undergo a leg lengthening procedure on the left femur. With the surgery there is hope that she may have even legs and decreased pain in her back, leg and foot, increasing her ability to walk without falling, and other issues that are associated with a severe leg length discrepancy. ( without intervention the condition only gets worse and the discrepancy only gets larger.) The surgery will put her in a wheelchair for several months to a year. Although she will be expected towards the end to weight bear using devices such as a walker or crutches. Then she'll have to undergo a second surgery to remove the device. Which has more wheelchair and physical therapy that is needed for recovery. (also she will then need knee surgery.) This gofundme account is being set up to help fund medical equipment, alterations that are needed for our home so that she can get in and out of the door with a ramp. So that she can fit in the bathroom and down the hall in her wheelchair and with a walker. So that we can fund weekly trips to and from the hospital which is 2 hours away. So that we can convert our front room into a bedroom giving her a place to sleep that she can access easily and a bed that she can get in and out of more easily. Her clothes need to be altered in order to fit her with the external fixator on the leg. Thank you very much for your consideration.
