November 2nd
On this day, I received a Facebook message from my uncle informing me that my cousin was involved in a workplace accident. Ermin was a week into his new job when the unthinkable happened; his hand got caught in the machinery. His coworkers were able to stop the machine in time, before it could pull him in anymore, but his hand had to be re-mangled through the machinery in order to free him from its grips.
He was rushed to the local hospital, who informed him they could not help with that level of trauma. He was then sent to the main hospital in Sarajevo, four hours away. They immediately took him into surgery to try and salvage what was left of his hand. The surgery was initially a success, but a blood clot forced them to amputate his right hand just below the elbow.

Now
Ermin has healed from his initial surgeries, and is continuing to heal from the psychological trauma. At just 18 years old, he is dealing with his injury with positivity and understanding well beyond his age. He is undergoing physical therapy to prep him for a prosthetic hand, which we are hoping to raise funds for. He has not been able to work since his injury, and currently lives in Bosnia with his parents (where global unemployment is over 57.5%).
The prosthetic hand is going to cost about 71,000 KM, which roughly converts to 42,000 USD. This is more than the average Bosnian household could ever afford (with the average monthly income being just $450 USD). The funds from this campaign will all go towards the prosthetic and the physical therapy that will follow. This hand will do wonders for Ermin, allowing him to feel some sense of normalcy again.

Ermin
Ermin's story is more than his injury. He graduated this past May from a technical school, and had finished his apprenticeship when the accident occurred. He dreamed of working in Germany to support himself and his family with a good and steady income. He was also an adept boxer, and a promising goalie. Above all, he is an extraordinary young man who has not let his injury slow him down! I am confident that he will achieve all of his dreams and return to his independent self after receiving his prosthetic.
