We’re sharing Erin’s story not only to explain why we’re asking for support during a life-changing chapter for our family, but also to hopefully give someone else hope who may be facing a difficult medical journey of their own.

When Erin was just 5 years old, he experienced an unfortunate accident, his foot was caught in a ride-on lawn mower blade after he got scared and jumped off. Doctors were able to save his foot, something he will always be deeply grateful for. That foot has carried him through 32 years of life, childhood, adulthood, work, family, and everything in between.

Saving his foot came with some complications as a lot of reconstructions do. Erin underwent reconstruction and lived with permanent deformity, chronic pain, and physical challenges. He adapted throughout life the best he could and pushed through discomfort so he could live his life and support our family.

About three years ago, shortly after we became new parents, those adaptations caught up with him. Erin developed compartment syndrome in his leg that his surgeons believe is being caused by how his body adapts to walking with his reconstructed foot. This has caused constant, unrelenting pain ever since. Unfortunately, because of the anatomy of his foot, emergency surgery to relieve the compartment syndrome isn’t an option, it would either return, create further complications, or risk his reconstructed foot. After multiple surgeons and specialists opinions they came to the conclusion that there is nothing reconstruction-wise that can be done for his foot and therefore, nothing can be done to resolve the compartment syndrome.

After nearly three years of waiting and living in agony, Erin will undergo a below-the-knee amputation on February 3rd, 2026.

This has been an incredibly difficult decision, but it is made with hope. The goal is relief from pain, improved mobility, and a better quality of life. The months ahead will bring significant challenges: recovery, mobility changes, prosthetics, home adaptations, and time away from work, but we are approaching this next chapter with courage and optimism.

Funds raised will help cover medical-related expenses, recovery needs, accessibility equipment, and living costs while Erin heals and learns to navigate life again.
