Tragically, yesterday Eric received a call that his only brother, Erin (age 39) was found passed away near a bridge in Dallas, Texas. Upon receiving the police report, we are now left without clear answers as to if this happened by accident or by Erin's choice. We do know however, that Erin was loved by us & so many others. Eric and Erin spoke just a few days ago on good terms but despite the help of our family & others who cared, Erin was homeless in Dallas over the past year & had been struggling for some time. He lived with us in Lawrence as well as with some family and friends in Parsons, Pittsburg & Joplin throughout the years.
We would like to remember the good times during this time of heartbreak. Erin was a brilliant musician, guitarist & singer. He played in bands throughout his life with his father, brother & numerous good friends. He worked manual labor jobs, using his hands, and was an excellent cook and enjoyed entertaining folks with his incredible guitar and musicianship skills. He loved cats, being in nature, listening to and creating music, reading books and spending time with his family and friends whenever possible.
Erin lost his long battle with mental health, alcoholism and substance issues ultimately but we would like to think that his soul is finally at peace. We would like to remember the good times, the laughter, the love & the music. Erin leaves behind his Irish-twin brother, Eric, who he was very close with & talked to every month until his passing, no matter where he roamed. He leaves behind his beautiful, talented & smart daughter, Lily Ann Clark, who will no longer have the chance to get to know her dad besides through stories, pictures & videos but we are blessed that she has an amazing mother & family. He also leaves behind his mother, Gretchen & stepdad Jim, his Grandma Pat, several caring & loving cousins, nieces & nephews and so many friends through life and music.
We are blessed to have so many who have already shown their love and support for our family. Please only give if you are able. We have 4 young children & were not expecting this expense so are trying to manage paying for his cremation and service best as we can to honor him. We also appreciate kind words, good stories about Erin, photos and video clips.
We have Erin's Memorial Service scheduled for Friday, Dec 10 (waiting on exact time but should be in the afternoon) at Calvary Baptist Church in Joplin, Missouri.
I will share a video memorial once I've made it as well. Please hug your loved ones tight & try to err on the side of forgiveness and love, as you never know when their journey may end. I am thankful to have known Erin and hope & pray for his peace as well as comfort for us all during this difficult time. Love, Jill (On behalf of Eric & our family)
