Erin started experiencing some shortness of breath in June. What started as a doctor’s visit out of an abundance of caution to rule out Covid turned into a summer of testing. After a biopsy a few weeks ago, Erin was diagnosed with lung cancer. The good news is that it was caught very early. However, the rare sub-type she has (a rare one that non-smokers can get) requires quick intervention. We do not know the full extent of treatment she will need but we do know the next step is surgery.

The multiple tests, appointments, and biopsy over the past few months have racked up bills as the family has a relatively high deductible insurance plan. This, in addition to the fact that most of the specialists she needs are out of network, means that the MacPhersons will certainly need to pay the out-of-pocket maximum for this calendar year and will most likely pay it all over again when it resets in January.

We are hoping to take some of the financial burden off their plates and raise money to help cover the medical bills and travel expenses related to Erin's care.

Additionally, Erin makes her income as a freelance writer and will be missing some income when she has to take days off for surgery and other care. Financial support will help her be able to take the time she needs to recover.
