Erin Grasmeyer Family Fund

Donation protected
This fund was set up to offer help and comfort to the Grasmeyer Family as they grieve the loss of their 19 year old daughter Erin. With the approach of Erin's celebration of life on September 29th 2019, many have asked how they can help. This is a tangible way we can all give to Ed, Brenda and Cameron.

Mere words on a page cannot capture the remarkable life of Erin Elizabeth Fraser Grasmeyer. Erin packed more impressive accomplishments into her 19 years than most do in a lifetime. Everything she touched was improved. Anyone she interacted with was left a better person. Her life was a gift of light and joy to anyone who was fortunate enough to be a part of it.

Erin was a gifted musician – her perfect pitch, brilliant piano skills and innate song-writing abilities. She composed songs (dozens of which appear on YouTube), arranged scores for her high school choirs, and performed in various bands. She performed at Bluesfest, the CHEO telethon and many of other venues. Her personal story was featured on eTalk, including an invite to the studio of The Launch to record an original composition. With her brother and friend, Cam, she performed covers and originals around town for several years, raising money for numerous charities through their music.

Erin was an amazing student. Always striving for excellence, Erin was consistently at the top of her class at school and achieved outstanding academic results. The same work ethic applied to her music. She recently attained Grade 10 piano and throughout her RCM career always received top evaluations (including 100% on her final RCM history exam). In April 2018, she was accepted to the University of Toronto Music Program with a scholarship level given to only the top 5% of all admissions at U of T.

Erin was a philanthropist. She was a champion to many causes, including The Turner Syndrome Society, Candlelighters, CARE Canada, The Progeria Foundation, and Operation Smile. She and her brother performed music at many charity events. She donated her hair four times to support several hair donation charities for kids with cancer (the last time was just before she lost her hair from chemo). Over the years, Erin donated thousands of dollars to charities, raised by making and selling jewelry and busking with her brother Cam and friends.

Erin was a true friend. Though she earned every bit of spotlight she achieved, she was always happier to defer to her friends and family. She reveled in their successes. She loved those around her dearly, always going that extra mile to graciously give to them. Her humility, combined with extraordinary kindness, set her apart.

Erin was a teacher. She loved to share the gifts given to her. While receiving chemotherapy treatments in 2018, Erin opened a piano teaching business. Within a short time, she had 30 students, each benefitting from her excellent technical skills, but more importantly from her ongoing encouragement and advice.

In April 2018, just three days after her university acceptance, Erin was diagnosed with a rare cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma. For the next 18 months Erin waged a courageous battle against this invasive disease, wanting only to live her life as much as possible and plan for her future. Through it all, she was the epitome of grace and strength. Never once complaining. Thinking of others even in her darkest moments. Expressing gratitude even up to her last days.

Erin Grasmeyer was born on January 11, 2000 and died September 18, 2019. She made this world a much better place. Our lives have been enriched beyond measure.
There are many ways for us to remember and honour Erin
Be kind to one and other, as Erin was…give to help others succeed and shine
Listen to beautiful music and hear the instruments and feel the emotions the composer gave it. Appreciate simple things like fruity teas, cozy blankets, good books and laughing with a great friend. When you are in a bad situation, be like Erin and choose to be positive, and hopeful and grateful for everyone helping you get through it.

Erin gave us light; love, laughter and music and her earthly presence will be forever missed.
We know our special angel is holding us tight

We are thankful for the support of so many friends, and so many people who we met on this journey who became friends, know that your kindness is forever in our hearts.
