We lost a member of our UNC Rex family today - Matt Shuster, RN. Matt is a nurse that works in the Cath Lab. He was beloved by all his patients and especially his work family. Matt is from Raleigh, NC and has been at Rex for the last three years. He was working when he met his beautiful wife, Erin who also works at Rex.  They met and fell in love quickly. Matt adored Erin. He went and bought an engagement ring and told all of his co-workers before he proposed. He was too excited to keep it a secret. They were married in September of 2018. On Saturday June 22nd, 2019 they gathered with friends and family for a gender reveal party. They were shocked to find out they were expecting a baby boy. Erin is 20 weeks pregnant. Matt was elated over the news he couldn't stop crying happy tears. Saturday night he posted "Excited and blessed to be having a Shuster boy, this has to be the proudest day of my life and I can't wait to raise you, Graham Mitchell Shuster. Named after my best friend Graham Ferguson that tragically passed a few years ago and my father in law Mitchell Medford who is a model of what a father should be, raising Erin Medford Shuster to be the wonderful woman she's grown to be and I couldn't be more thankful for that."

Tragically, Matt didn't wake up for work on Wednesday June 26th, 2019. Erin immediately called 911. Every effort was taken to save Matt, but ultimately he passed. Our hearts are all broken. We want to surround Erin with all the love and support this world has to offer. We know there are no words to express the depth of pain and loss. Your donation is greatly appreciated.
