Erik’s Seizures & Unexpected Kidney Failure

Donation protected

Hello and thank you for being here. I am Lindsay, Erik’s partner and I am asking for support to help Erik on his medical journey with seizures and unexpected kidney failure. Here’s the journey so far…
One month ago I woke up to the sounds of Erik chocking on his own vomit. He was in the middle of a seizure in the bed. I got him on his side and called 911. By the time I followed the ambulance and got to the Hospital he was alert and discharged soon after some fluids.
Monday November 6th I get the call from his coworker that informed me he was in the middle of a seizure at work and they called 911. I showed up to his work and he was still a bit confused but mildly alert and on the way to the hospital. I was fully expecting him to be awake like last time, but they then explained to me he had a second seizure coming into the hospital. From there things escalated unbelievably quickly. He started vomiting and I was told they needed to put a breathing tube in him to prevent him aspirating on his own vomit. Next thing you know breathing tube is in, we are transported to ICU and he is sedated in a medically induced coma for almost 32 hours as they access his brainwaves and let his brain and body rest after the back to back seizure.
When the breathing tube was removed (unbelievably traumatic) he slept through the night and we woke up to excellent news that he would most likely get discharged that day after blood work and an MRI.
They then took blood 3 times because something was seriously wrong and it seemed like a misread. Within hours we were notified that his kidneys were failing and they said it was ‘unexplainable’. They ‘have never seen this post seizure’. Not very comforting.
The next morning we get the news his creatinine levels are not regulating and he needed dialysis for hopefully one time but could be the rest of his life.
Dialysis was a 4 hour experience of removing most of his blood to clean it and remove the toxins from his troubled kidneys. We are currently waiting a few days in the hospital to monitor these levels post dialysis, to see if he needs more dialysis and to see if his kidneys kick back in.
As we all know in this country when you are fronted with the stress of medical emergency you are forced with the stress of debt. I’m asking to help Erik’s with his medical bills with dealing with this experience. His seizures have taken a back seat due to his failing kidneys however we have a long road to diagnosing of why these seizures are happening. Erik is the absolute best and loved by so many and I appreciate each and every one of you!
