Family and Friends of Erik Holland:
My name is Elizabeth and I am his daughter. If we have never been formally introduced then I just want to start off by saying thank you for being apart of my Dad's community and for showing him love and support in his life and his art.
On Thursday morning a little after 5 a.m. he suffered a stroke in his loft due to a blood clot that traveled to his brain. Luckily, his fiancee Amelia was there and was able to call the paramedics who came quickly.
He was given medicine within a safe timeframe to thin out the clot and since Thursday, he has improved greatly. His short term memory has been compromised (although he is beginning to be able to piece together what happened.) He is also having some visual disturbances which we are praying will improve with time. He is still his goofy self and other than those two issues, seems to be doing great.
As you all probably know, he makes his living as an artist and relies on teaching, projects, and commissions to get by. He has medical insurance but it's unclear at the moment (though I will continue to update this as information comes) what will and won't be covered.
Due to this unexpected turn of events, we are asking for donations to help him cover medical expenses and after care. He will need to focus on rehabilitating the next few months and we hope to relieve him of any financial stressors.
Thank you so much for all your prayers, support and love. I have no doubt that my Dad will come back from this as strong as ever.
Love,
Elizabeth, Amy, Janel, Kurt, Erin and Mateo
