Supporting our Amazing Erik M.

Update on August 15, 2019:

Sadly, Erik lost his fight to cancer on August 12th and passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones.

We first want to thank you all for your tremendous outpouring of love and support throughout Erik’s fight. It gave all of us strength and it meant so much to Erik.

Also, I wanted to share details about Erik’s memorial service.

Next week, on Sunday August 25th, we will hold a memorial service in Newton, Massachusetts at Temple Reyim (1860 Washington St) at 1pm.

Following the service, we’ll move to Temple Shalom (175 Temple St - less than one mile from Temple Reyim) for a reception.

We hope to see you next weekend, and please don’t hesitate to spread the word to others who you think may want to attend.

Love,
Nicole
(Erik's wife)

--------
Erik was diagnosed at the beginning of 2018 with Cholangiocarcinoma, a rare form of cancer in the bile duct. He was accepted into the liver transplant program at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, the best program in the country, and following weeks of aggressive radiation and chemotherapy treatment, received a successful liver transplant from his twin brother Daniel on June 14th of last year.

Unfortunately, Erik's cancer has recently returned.  Since the transplant provided his only chance at a full cure, this recurrence means a terminal diagnosis.  This is extremely upsetting for all of us that know and love Erik.

While the data suggests a challenging prognosis, we will be doing everything we can to stay healthy and pursue life longevity by any means possible.

Erik and his family have selected a renowned oncologist based out of New York City to manage his treatment plan. The complex protocol integrates traditional western treatments with proven eastern medicine treatments. These treatments and doctors visit are out-of-pocket expenses, and estimated at over $300,000 in the first year alone.

We have put together a centralized site for friends and family to provide support over the coming weeks and months. Funds that are not needed will be donated to research efforts for Cholangiocarcinoma.

We love you!
