The last few years have been tough... as it has for many due to layoffs and Covid. In May I felt something was terribly wrong and asked Diego to take me to the ER. Healthcare in Atlanta was terrible and they told Sergio to take me home and I would be dead in 3 months. Sergio and Diego decided to sell our house in Lilburn and move in with my parents in Delaware, Ohio. We arrived in October and immediately made an appointment with our former family doctor who connected me with the OSU transplant program. Sergio has not been able to work as he helps care for my parents who have their own health issues, the boys and of course me. When we arrived I could not walk unattended and spent most of the time sleeping. I began seeing the transplant team and completing the never ending hoops of tests, hospital visits etc. to meet the stringent requirements. We receive food stamps and Medicaid but have had no income for 8 months. The team highly suggested I apply for Long Term Disability and the application is complete but no one will give us a time line. We have sold everything we can and struggle to have enough $ to pay for gas for my almost daily appointments. Any assistance is appreciated. It is incredibly difficult to be in this position as we were always the fortunate people that helped friends and others in need. Many people have asked how they can help and we are so incredibly grateful to our friends! Peace and Love! Erika
