Erika Jay's Cancer Fight

Mark and Erika Jay have worked in non-profit ministry with various organizations for 20 years.  Over the last several years, they have been working to pay off insurmountable medical debt from Erika’s first 3 1/2 yr battle with a rare stage 3 cancer.  A few weeks ago, after another surgery, Erika received news that the sarcoma cancer has returned and more medical bills are rolling in.  The Jays currently have more than $90,000 in medical expenses resulting from 11 surgeries and procedures, imaging, labs, chemo, high insurance premiums and other treatment costs which have added up on credit cards over the last few years.  Their medical expenses caught national attention when they were invited to share their story at the White House this summer on behalf of other struggling families. In recent months, their financial difficulties have truly become hardships forcing them to make difficult decisions for their family.  Mark has been without work since late August and as of this week, Erika will also be without employment.  She just started chemo and does not know if she will be able to gain full-time employment due to her health.  They are in the process of selling their home due to the financial hardship and are facing the reality of likely needing to move out of state for a lower cost of living and specialized treatment for Erika.
