I would like to tell you about a family that needs our help.
Erik and Nikki Hill are two of the hardest working people I have ever met. They both work 50-60 hours a week to support their four children.
Until recently, all seemed to be going well. Then Erik became ill. Erik had been suffering from stomach issues for many years. He would get check ups, diet changes, testing, and often sent home with just pain meds and antibiotics. He suffered from constant vomiting (almost daily). A few months ago, after visits to a few local hospitals, the doctor's were able to see he had an abscess forming in his abdominal area. Further testing resulted in the diagnosis of a Colovesical Fistula. This is where the colon and bladder fuse, creating a hole/tunnel between the two and start mixing together.
The Hill’s found two excellent surgeons who together pulled off a 6-hour surgery. It took Erik forever to wake up, but when he did, the family was thankful he was alive!
Erik is on the mend, but his road to recovery will be long. He has good and bad days. When fully recovered, it is not yet known if he will be able to return to his job, as it requires extensive manual labor.
To try to make ends meet, Nikki works her day job as a kindergarten teacher, bartends at night, and teaches ESL online to children in China.
Erik and Nikki are still struggling to pay hospital bills, keep up with monthly bills, and properly care for their family.
It is during this difficult time that Erik and Nikki must rely on the kindness of others for help. We are thankful for any support you may be able to provide.
