Erik Stoner Medical Costs

Wendesday, May 15 while leaving a restaurant, Erik was struck by a pickup truck. While going in reverse, the drivers side mirror hit his right shoulder, spun him around, knocked him down, and caused his head to strike the pavement with enough force to render him immediately unconscious. The driver then put the truck in drive, gunned it, and both driver side tires ran over Erik at hip level. He was transported to Ben Taub Trauma Center by ambulance and was bleeding out internally. His blood pressure upon arrival was 50/0. They did stat CT imaging and ultrasound and saw that both of his hips were broken, his pelvic bone was broken in 6 places, and the pelvic fractures had severed numerous arteries in his groin. He was rushed to emergency surgery to repair those arteries, and give him several units of blood (which saved his life). When he woke up from that surgery, he learned what had happened to him, and his first question was whether anyone else was hurt! Then he was told of his multiple fractures, numerous lacerations, and bruises, and about how many surgeries he still had ahead of him, and the very long road he had to recovery. He was told that it would probably be 3-6 months before he could walk again, and 6-9 months for full recovery. That was when he started to panic. How would he make a living? Would he lose his job? How to pay the bills that just don't stop because you're hurt? And what about the astronomical medical bills? We fear they'll be more crippling than the accident itself... He's had his surgeries now.  He is full of plates, and pins, and screws. And to everyone's shock, has already started to get himself around in a wheelchair,  AND with a walker (for short distances)! He's surpassing expectations in his usual fashion.  But the financial concerns remain. It will be 12 weeks before he can start to put weight on his left leg. He has been moved to an in-patient rehab facility, and is working hard on physical therapy 4 hours a day. His employer is kind enough to hold his job for him, but there is no short term or long term disability available.  So, this is why we have decided to ask for some help. Erik is a proud man, and asking for any kind of help is hard for him. But we have children to think of, and don't want to put so much burden on family alone... So, we're asking. Please, if you can spare anything to help out it would be so very appreciated. If you can share this on your social media pages, and ask your friends to do the same, you have our undying gratitude!  Thank you all in advance for your support, and for reading this!!
