To say it’s been a rough year for our Cath Lab family is an understatement. For the third time this year we have a Cath Lab family member diagnosed with Cancer!
Erik Orth- (aka EO) Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Friend, and the best of the best cath lab tech.
For 30+ years Erik has been caring for others, saving lives, and a part of our team here at The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano since 2007. One of the original Silverbacks, he is a wealth of knowledge. Heck- the man even changed a flat tire during the middle of the night on the way to a STEMI, and still made it in 30 minutes!
He loves his family, red wine, snow skiing, classical music ( but has been spotted trying to rattlesnake- a well known cath lab dance). You can bet if there is a dessert, apple fritter, or chocolate in the break room, EO knows about it! However; we all always agree not to tell Brenda.
Erik’s faith and great attitude are contagious. He is a faithful member of Baruch Messianic Synagogue.
What’s going on?
This all started when Erik started having difficulty swallowing. This led to an upper endoscopy on 8/8/22. The pathology report came back the next day- Esophageal cancer. Pet Scan, exploratory laparoscopy, and port insertion were done the last week in August. Then this week he got the final diagnosis of stage 4 esophageal cancer with liver involvement.
What’s the plan?
Erik will start chemotherapy 2 times a week. Radiation will be added, and surgical resection of his esophagus will ultimately be done.
How can you help?
Let’s be honest- we would never know if Erik needed help. He is honest, hardworking, and someone who never complains. We all know that cancer treatments and sickness can be challenging to face emotionally and financially. Most of all we just want to show Erik he is loved. Please feel free to give any amount to help with medical expenses. Most of all we ask for your prayers for Erik, his family and the medical team caring for him!
