Hello,
This is Ali's cousin Holly. As most of you know, our family lost our beloved Erik Hook on January 21st . Erik passed after he lost his short but intense battle with Stage IV Cholangiocarcinoma (cancer of the bile ducts). The nature of this cancer is extremely rare and aggressive, so even though Erik fought as hard as he could, this horrible disease stole him from us in just 3 months. The battle was extra difficult due to COVID-19 restrictions. For most of the struggle, Erik had to be separated from Ali, Sam and Amanda who were not allowed to be beside him in the hospital. Those three are made up of stronger stuff than I could ever even imagine, but this is obviously a devastating blow and an incredibly difficult time.
Erik was a bright light to everyone he knew and he touched countless lives. More than anything, Erik was one of the absolute best dads and husbands there ever was. He loved Sam and Amanda so much it just oozed out of him. He and Ali were together for 30 years, spending more of their lives together then they did apart. They were true soul mates and the absolute epitome of life partners. They grew and matured together, challenged each other and put in hard work to bring out the best in each other and then create and raise two of the most wonderful, kind, talented and inspiring young people there are.
Erik's medical expenses and passing have left the family with significant financial burdens. Erik was the main bread winner of the household and due to the pandemic and Erik's care, Ali has not been able to work and will obviously need some time before she is able to look for work again. Sam is currently in college and Amanda will be leaving for college in just 2 years.
Many folks have reached out wondering what they can do to support Ali and the kids and honor Eriks memory. In a time when we'd like to help the family recover, financial stressors are one major problem we can help alleviate.
There is absolutely nothing more in the world that Erik would want than to know that his beloved family had some financial security and stability. To honor his memory and support this phenomenal family, I ask you to donate anything you can. No amount is too small and any amount is greatly appreciated. I am setting up this fundraiser, but Ali will have full access to withdraw the funds herself. 100% of the proceeds will go to the family.
Much love, and keep sharing stories, pictures and laughs in Erik's honor as well.
Holly Tarnower
