Be Erik Carr's Helping Hand

Donation protected
On Thursday, November 15th at 7:00 p.m. my doorbell rang unexpectedly.  I opened the door and saw an ex-student of mine standing there in a broken state. I had taught him when he was in the 6th grade.  He later became a family friend as he grew to know my boys through basketball.  His name is Erik Carr, and this is his current story…

Erik (21 years old) has been attending Weatherford College in hopes of pursuing a teaching career.  If you know Erik, you know this is what he was created to do.  In fact, he wants it so badly that he has been living in rocky situations and working three jobs in order to make it happen.

A couple of months ago, Erik and his girlfriend were wrestling one other when he hit his thumb just right and instantly began vomiting. His hand became so swollen that he “couldn’t see any of the creases or cracks” that normally appear on your skin.  A couple of weeks later, he woke up and had lost all feeling and mobility in his hand.  Erik found out that he had developed Compartment Syndrome.  Surgery could not be performed because the muscles and the nerves in his hand were dead. Erik was told to take medical leave from his college courses and his jobs.   He was directed to attend intense physical therapy, but was told he would probably never be able to use his hand again.

I wish that is where this story ended.  Unfortunately, while visiting a neurologist, Erik was diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.  His body cannot regulate its temperature.  His heart feels like it’s about to “bust out of his chest.”  Pain is continuous. Atrophy could slowly take over his body.

Needless to say, doctor bills are beginning to pile up.  Erik wants to go back to school after Christmas but isn’t able to work to pay for his tuition.

This young man has always been an athlete.  He has worked diligently since graduating from high school.  Right now, he “feels like he is in a dark hole.” He cannot cut his own food.  He needs help getting dressed.  Showering is a chore...Erik is struggling.

Please help us to shine some light on Erik’s life.  He is having trouble seeing a way out.  Funds raised will go to pay for medical bills, a mechanical hand, and college tuition.

Trust me...This world needs Erik to achieve his dream of being a teacher.  He is the type of person that would change the trajectory of children’s lives.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.  There is no amount that is too small.

God bless!
