Friends and Family,
As most of you know, Eric Sikma was admitted to Memorial Hospital Wednesday, January 27, 2015 after being found collapsed at work. He underwent surgery for a blood clot in his brain and was not expected to survive. The neurologist told us to prepare for the worst...
However, against many odds, and to the amazment of his doctors, Eric survived and is continuing to heal. As of January 30th, he is sitting up, responsive and breathing on his own, with some off and on assistance as needed. His kidneys are still having difficulty with function.
An abundance of prayers and support of family members who are more than just friends, has poured in to encourage him and all those who know him.
He is expected to be in ICU for another week, and then will begin rehabilitation and physical therapy.
We all know the costs... and fortunately, Eric does have insurance, however other costs are of concern and your help is requested.
Still being early in this, we do not as yet have totals for his expenses. However, we felt being proactive in seeking your help was prudent and wise. All funds received will be used to cover costs not covered by his insurance. (Rent, utilities, etc.)
As the inner family, we are thankful beyond words and have never once been, nor felt alone. We are spread throughout the country, but have never been closer.
Thank you all for your help....
If you have specific questions please contact me directly. Thank you. On behalf of Eric Sikma and Family...
[TRAVEL FUNDING NOTE: We are including a request here as well for assistance in travel funding. Rick/Dad, Ruth/Mom, Becky/Sister, Deanna/Daughter all live in North Pole, Alaska. Michelle Dunham, ex-wife is in Walla Walla, WA. Eric is in Colorado Springs, CO. According to doctors, he will need help and assistance for the next number of months. The one way ticket purchased for Dad was over $600, his return flight has been taken care of.
Details are still being discussed, but at this moment, only Dad has made it down to see him. Primarily, we would like to be able to send Mom down as soon as possible. With time, she and Dad may need to return to Alaska.
If anyone has spare airlines miles or inexpensive options for travel to and from, please let us know. Thank you!]
