My wonderful baby brother was diagnosed with Papillary Thyroid Cancer in late July of this year. Eric is young and strong, 23 years of age. He had surgery in August to remove the thyroid and a significant number of lymph nodes. After over five hours of surgery, I'm told that he was in good spirits. Interns doing rounds the following morning described him as, "the poster child of cancer patients."
"Thyroid Cancer is the #1 growing cancer in the last decade. Papillary Thyroid cancer is highly treatable."
Eric is a student of engineering and working full time. With school to begin in August, Eric is facing disruptions in an ability to work, as well as in attending classes.
"Eric's first surgery schedule was delayed. Having surgery on a Tuesday, home late Wednesday, Eric was planning on starting classes on Monday.. doing homework for those classes he'd missed this same week. He is persistently optimistic."
Eric is having a tough time to say the least. Friends and family have rallied to assist with his needs. He's not able to resume work, his semester is on hold, and his days and weeks ahead hold questions he can't possibly have answers to. I don't want my baby brother to worry about what he has no control over.
With treatment ahead,: rent; insurance; utilities; car payment; travel experiences for medical care.., all need to be met.
"I don't like to ask for anything... I should have saved the money." <Eric>
"There are people in this world that care. You're not asking, your sister is offering to reach out to others because she loves you... People care." <mom>
Eric is determined with a strong work ethic. For now, Eric needs us. I'm asking you to reach out to my brother Eric. Donations of $1.00, $5.00, $10.00, all help. Sharing his story helps. Prayers are greatly appreciated.
Eric will fight and persist.. He will make you proud for knowing him, or for having shared in knowing him.
Thank you all!
