Lifesaving Pacemaker for my 11 Year Old Dog, Eric.

Donation protected
Dear Friends,

Please take a second to learn about my 11–year old dog ‘Eric’ and his story about receiving a pacemaker this week at Texas A&M...

This past weekend Eric collapsed while we were on a walk and was unable to move. I carried him back to the house and got him to an emergency vet clinic here in Austin.  The clinic completed a thorough exam and and discovered a severe heart conduction issue (AV block). This was causing him to have severely low blood circulation, and a dangerously low pulse of 30-35 bpm.

The doctor told me that if I wanted to save him I needed to take him to Texas A&M immediately to have the veterinary hospital install a pacemaker to correct his heartbeat.

We had left right away on the 2-hour drive to College Station.  On the way there I was worried about losing him. Eric was just barely with me by the time we arrived. The doctors and staff at the Texas A&M Small Animal Clinic were waiting for us when we arrived late Sunday evening, and they were able to get him stabilized through the night. The procedure to surgically implant his lifesaving pacemaker was successfully completed the next day.

After a day of rest, I was able to bring him back home to Austin. He has a long recovery period ahead of him, but as of now, a week later, he is doing well and thriving.

I would like to thank Eric’s veterinary cardiologist, Dr. Blakely Janacek, who performed the surgery successfully. I would also like to thank all of the other doctors and staff at the Texas A&M Small Animal Clinic for helping Eric and I through this. They are the greatest.

Needless to say this was an expensive endeavor. and we have several follow-up visits in College Station, but I believe it was worth it. Eric now has several more good years with us.

I am reluctantly holding this fundraiser. Asking for donations from friends over a pet health issue when so many people are experiencing real tragedy and loss. Keeping this in perspective, the costs for Eric’s pacemaker and recovery are substantial so I would be incredibly grateful for even the slightest donation.

As a personal thank you, all donors will receive a handwritten thank you, signed with Eric’s pawprint. Anyone donating $50 and up will also receive a super cool and fashionable T-Shirt with a custom ‘Eric’ logo!
