Eric McDaniels Road to Recovery
Eric McDaniels is a native of Elizabeth City, North Carolina; the youngest of 6 brothers, and is the father of Jake McDaniels and Jordan McDaniels Williams. After graduating from Northeastern High School he chose to further his education at Chowan College where he played football and baseball. He transferred to Atlantic Christian College and played baseball. He completed his education at Elizabeth City State University earning a Bachelor of Science in Health/Physical Education. Eric has over 26 years experience as an Educator and Coach; 10 of those years he served as an Athletic Director. Coach Mac is currently the head football coach at Roanoke Rapids High School.
On Wednesday February 8, 2017, Eric’s life changed dramatically when he was getting ready for work and experienced shortness of breath. He felt like he was having a heart attack and called 911; he was transported to Halifax Regional Hospital in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and placed in ICU for heart related issues. Tests concluded that he needed surgery and a transfer to Wake Medical in Raleigh, North Carolina for a heart catheterization. His diagnosis was an aortic stenosis (narrowing of the valve in the large blood vessel branching off the aorta) and an aneurysm. Eric’s Aortic Valve was replaced and the aneurysm was repaired. Coach Mac is expected for release from the hospital in the next couple of days.
The McDaniels family helped so many people throughout the years, let’s return their generosity and assist one of their own in a time of need. Eric will not return to work full time for at least two months. Medical hardship is an enormous burden in a person’s life; let’s support Coach Mac and his family on his road to recovery.
