Hello, my name is Laisa and I am reaching out to you all for help due to my husband being in the hospital. My husband, Erick Ortiz Perez, is our rock and provider. He has been in the hospital since September 4th. Originally, we went in because he was not feeling well. He began to have leg and muscle pain last year, but last week, it got worse. He was unable to move at all and began to feel severe cramps all over his body. He was rushed to the hospital and was told his blood pressure was 240/149. The news we received next was heartbreaking.

Erick was diagnosed with Rhabdomyolysis. His muscle tissue has been breaking down while releasing damaging protein to his kidneys. He is currently in kidney failure. Due to the damage, his only chance of survival is a kidney transplant or dialysis.

He began dialysis and has had complications with the port being rejected by his body. Erick underwent surgery today so that he is able to receive the treatment in hopes he can be with us a little longer.

We have a 5-year-old daughter with special needs and medical issues. She misses her daddy terribly, and it’s so hard to see her cry every day for him while not understanding everything going on.

He is a field worker and we have been informed that he no longer will be able to return to his line of work. The future is to be determined.
