Erick, The Barber...

Erick Auguste is an accomplished electrician, a popular family man with a wife and two children, and a home in Treasure Cay, Abaco, Bahamas. In the terrible Hurricane Dorian of September 1-2, 2019, Erick and his family lost their home. As the hurricane raged inside and outside their house, Erick struggled through several feet of water to rescue his mother, visiting the family, as she was being swept out of the home by violent waters and enormously powerful winds. Erick extended his left arm attempting to grasp his mother away from the horrific storm sweeping her beyond the house. Torn off the house by winds far in excess of 150mph, a piece of wood blew off and severed Erick’s arm just below the shoulder.  His mother was lost to the storm.

Somehow Erick and his family managed to get to the shelter of a local fire station a half mile away. There his terrible wound was plainly dressed. Hours later Erick was transported to a local medical clinic, then on to Nassau. Eventually he was flown to Miami for treatment at Baptist Memorial Hospital. There he is now being prepared for surgery and the attachment of a left arm prosthesis.

The funds now being contributed in his behalf are dedicated to pay for the ongoing medical expenses and daily life and shelter for he and his family as he begins his long journey learning to function with the prosthesis and resume his life. Erick is a friend and an exceptional man bound and determined to regain a full life with his family and friends. All who are lucky enough to know him are certain of his success in this endeavor. He has a powerful faith, repeatedly stating “I’m going to make it.”

Erick is our Electrician and a wonderful help around our community! He is currently in a US hospital in Miami and we have received these funds directly in order to send him a check directly to get him the help he needs now with his ongoing medical expenses.

We ask that you help us support Erick as he works to achieve that success and we thank you so much for the help you have contributed so far.

Thank you,
Paige and Paul Hammond
