It is with great sadness that the Seidl family has announced the passing of my brother in law, Erick Seidl on February 14th, 2021. This devastating news from my sister Robin, his wife, leaves us all with an aching heart, mended only by time and touched by all the memories Erick created for us. Erick is survived by his wife Robin Seidl, son Erick Seidl Jr, daughters Rebecca Seidl (Kyle Thorne) and Dawn Blohowiak (Shawn Blohowiak son-in-law), and grandchildren (Connor, Liam, Kavin, and Liberty).
A devoted husband, a loving father & grandfather, a generous brother & Uncle, he leaves a lasting legacy of friendships, laughs, and a life well lived. He was always there to help anyone at anytime of the day or night, would give you his shirt off his back. He loved talking and sharing many stories with his family & friends. He always was thinking about projects and things to make his life easier and was planning ideas for their retirement. He loved being outdoors and spending time with his family & friends.
Prior to September of 2020, Erick had a lot of discomfort and pain and with the constant persuading from his family, he decided to go get checked out. This basically started a chain reaction of tests ordered from his doctor to try to get some answers to find out what was causing the pain. October of 2020, Erick needed all of his teeth removed due to them all cracking and shattering. Shortly after having his teeth removed, Erick was diagnosed with diabetes. He was immediately started on insulin because of how high his sugar levels were and seeing a dietitian for correcting his eating habits which he was determined to do. They were able to get his diabetes under control and started to remove him from his insulin. Although his diabetes was under control, the pain still continued. More doctor visits were scheduled, two MRI’s were done and a third was ordered for more tests. He had to do blood flow tests for his legs because he was loosing range of motion and feeling in his feet. Even with all the testing done to this point and a few buldged discs which the doctors suggested that surgery could be an option, this left us without answers for the pain he was still having. The doctors said that the pains he was still experiencing in his chest & back should not be associated with the neuropathy pain of diabetes. These were all the events leading up to Erick’s heart attack.
On 2/11/2021 Erick had his heart attack at his home with his family present. 911 was called, CPR and other life saving measures were done prior to first responders arriving on site. He had flat-lined for a second time at the hospital (which they didn’t find out until Sunday). Upon arrival to the hospital and after the stints were put into his heart, they started a cooling process for 24 hours to help save the heart & brain function. After the first 24 hours they then started a warming process that took 17 hours to bring his body temperature back to normal. After discussing Erick’s pain symptoms over the last several months with the ICU doctors & nurses, they informed the family that Erick had all the signs and symptoms prior to the heart attack. We feel this was overlooked and pushed off onto his diabetes, resulting in it not being caught in time to save his life. Although being hopeful, he was not reacting to any pain stimuli and eye dilation tests. On Sunday, February 14th the doctors tried to take him off the ventilators but unfortunately he failed the test and they had to abort. Later that afternoon they took him in for another full head scan and called a family meeting at 4pm to let them know that at the time of the head scan, on 2/14 that Erick was considered “brain dead” and legally pronounced dead. Erick’s family was by his side holding his hands on 2/15 while he was taken of life support and took his final breaths.
We are hoping to help the family offset cremation expenses and doctor & hospital bills.
I gratefully thank you for any and all support for the family.
Sincerely,
Chrissy VandeHey
