Erica's Tanzania Trip
Coming from the West Indies, most of our history has been passed down through an oral tradition of storytelling. As our elders pass away, our history is being lost. Only through preservation can our stories remain.
I'm Erica, a second-year student in the Screen Arts program at Nova Scotia Community College. I'll be travelling to Tanzania this April to participate in an Oral History Interpretation and Documentation Program.
This two-week pilot program (faculty & students of NSCC) will focus on research, documentation and interpretation of oral history in various regions of the country.
It will also assist the students at Mikumi Vocational Centre, & support the curriculum of a new “eco/cultural tourism” course, by providing the finished documentation to be used as teaching resources and case studies. This is something that I feel strongly connected to as the past not only provides lessons for the present, but also guidance for the future.
The two-week trip: airfare, accommodations and most meals will cost about $3600 CAD.
I'm asking your assistance in supporting this trip and this pilot program.
Thanking you in advance!
