My beautiful daughter Erica was diagnosed about 7 years ago with a rare condition called Keratoconus with effects your eye site. She had it in her left eye and was recently diagnosed with it in her right eye. There is no cure for this condition and glasses or contacts will not help her vision because Keratoconus effects the shape of your cornea. We were told that in the future as Erica gets older will need a cornea transplant (which is kinda scary). Back in 2016 the FDA finally approved a procedure called C3-R or Corneal Collagen Crosslinking with Riboflavin. This procedure does not cure it, but it stops it from getting worse and prevents a possible risky cornea transplant. Erica is scheduled for this procedure on March 20, 2017. Unfortunately this procedure is not covered under medical insurance. And I have to pay out of pocket for this. I am a single mother and coming up with these funds in such a short time is almost impossible. I do not want Erica to wait much longer for this procedure because I feel it is a hazard when she drives, cause she see's 20/200 out of her left eye. After she has this procedure and her eyes heal she will then need a second procedure done which they say is like a lasik procedure. This procedure changes the shape of her cornea which will allow her to wear glasses or contacts to help her vision.
