However, I've been on medical leave since April and as of mid-August I have maxed out my 15 weeks of EI sickness benefits. (Don't even get me started on the cruelty of limiting sick leave to 15 weeks. I would be entitled to 52 weeks of EI benefits if I were unemployed or pregnant instead of sick.)
I'm sure you all know how hard it is to get by in this city on 100% of your income -- let alone 55%, which is what EI pays out.
I am now no longer receiving EI and waiting to transition to long-term disability until I've recovered from my surgery. But in the meantime, I've run through all of my life savings and will not be able to make September rent.
To help with my recovery from surgery, I'm also hoping to purchase assistance rails for my bed. But those run upwards of $100-$200. This is not as urgent as rent, but it would improve my quality of life to be able to get out of bed on my own.
Thank you for reading this. It's embarrassing to ask, but I really need help. If you have even a few dollars to spare, I'd be incredibly grateful for your support.
