Erica to attend the World Scout Moot in Portugal in 2025
Donation protected
In July and August this year I will attend the World Scout Moot in Portugal as a member of the International Service Team, representing the UK Contingent. I will be part of the volunteer team helping to support the camp operations to make sure that the 5000 participants from across the world can meet, engage and learn safely and enjoyably. The young people will learn about each other’s lives and cultures while taking part in paths to explore Portugal in mixed nationality groups, followed by a full programme of activities at the main camp. In a world of division and conflict, it’s more important than ever than young people learn what it is to be global citizens and I want to do all I can to support that.
To be able to attend as part of the International Service Team, I have to fund my place so I set myself a (slightly bonkers) challenge to walk from Mynydd Isa Scout hut on a circuit around Flintshire, visiting every scout group’s meeting place in Flintshire District on the route, ending back where I started at Mynydd Isa scout hut (setting off on the morning of 12th April) to raise awareness of the Moot and to help raise funds to pay for my place. The route totalled 45 miles, passed 13 different scout huts and the distract campsite and it took over 97000 steps to walk but with the help of jelly babies, a couple of kind walking companions and sheer stubbornness, I completed it! I have written up the experience of walking to every scout hut in Flintshire (including gnarly feet details) here: https://chilscoutadventure.wordpress.com/2025/04/17/45-miles-around-flintshire/
Thank you to every person who cheered me along, provided haribos and tea and donated to help me get to the World Scout Moot, I really appreciate it so much!
What crazy challenge should I try next?
I will keep this page updated with my latest exploits as I attempt to fundraise and train for the Moot, as well as my experiences on the Moot itself.
Thank you for your interest and support!
