This is Eric. He was only sixteen years old and had a rare heart infection called Endocarditis. 

He was born with a heart murmur which made his heart susceptible to this infection. 

He was experiencing severe achiness in his joints on the first week of January. It was thought he might have Lymes Disease.
But on January 5 he suddenly went unconscious and remained this way for nearly two weeks until he passed away January 17.

Endocarditis causes a buildup on the lining of the heart valve and pieces of this can break off into the bloodstream. This can cause many more problems.  His brain had a stroke from one of these pieces and his heart was also weakened.



The cost of his room alone was approximately $14,700 a day.
