Eric was playing with his children and celebrating his twin brother Brian , a fallen soldier, on Memorial Day when he suffered a tragic and traumatic injury that has left him partially paralyzed. Eric is a veteran himself, discharged honorably for medical injury during a training exercise . Brian was killed on July 19, 2010 during his second and final tour in Afghanistan.
Eric slipped on the ladder to the family's above ground pool and fell into the pool hitting his head on the bottom. He was immediately paralyzed. He drowned and by God’s grace was resuscitated by his wife and EMS. He has been at the Texas Institute of Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR) unit at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas since leaving the ICU at St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan, Texas a few days after the accident. At the TIRR unit in Houston, Eric has been diagnosed with tetraplegia, central cord syndrome, spasticity and double crushed phenomenon. When he drowned, the lack of oxygen to the brain has caused some cognitive difficulty as well. He is returning home in a power wheelchair unable to functionally walk , unable to use his hands functionally for normal daily tasks, and requires continued extensive therapy. He will also undergo surgery in July to correct his narrow spinal cord pathway to prevent the risk of further catastrophic injury.
Eric is the father of the very beautifully blended Piercy Family. He is a father to 9 children (Lillie, Travis, Rachaella, Jacob, Bryana, Edward, Emma, Yanaba and Oliver). Eric is a loving husband who married his wife Ashley on December 18th, 2021. Eric was a dedicated and proud team member at Kent Moore Cabinets, respected and known as a hard worker, personable and loved. When he is not working, Eric's favorite pastime is spending time with his family.
At TIRR Eric has been working hard, through very painful and strenuous physical and occupational therapy and making good progress but he has a long journey ahead of him. His spasticity condition causes him frequent spasms, tremors, and neuropathic pain throughout his body and yet he continues to push through it with a positive heart and a faith in God. Eric's motivation is his family.
Eric requires medical equipment, therapy, a 24-hour dedicated caregiver and a handicap ADA home and vehicle. For obvious reasons, Eric cannot work and his wife Ashley cares for their children and will now be his caregiver as well. To combat the incoming bills and help support Eric and his family endure these costs, we have established a GoFundMe to provide for any needs; gas, medical, medical equipment, prescriptions, insurance premiums, therapy, etc.
Whatever you can find in your heart to give, it will be incredibly appreciated by the Piercy family. Thank you all so much for your support. We love Eric!!!
