On June 4, 2026, Eric suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while at work and has remained hospitalized in intensive care ever since. During his hospitalization, he experienced two more cardiac arrests and continues to require highly specialized cardiac care. His medical team expects that he will need major heart surgery, followed by what is likely to be a lengthy period of recovery and rehabilitation.
Eric has spent much of his life behind the scenes, more comfortable helping other people succeed than drawing attention to himself. He is generous with his time, kind, gentle, respectful, and patient. He has a habit of showing up, staying late, and taking on whatever needs to be done.
A bassist since childhood, he studied performance, toured with indie rock bands and classical ensembles, and performed at venues ranging from small clubs to stages including Coachella, Lollapalooza, Carnegie Hall, and the Shanghai Grand Theatre in China. In later years, he focused increasingly on recording, production, engineering, and live sound, helping artists bring their work into the world.
In recent years, Eric volunteered with LA CAN in Los Angeles's Skid Row community, helping with live sound, recording projects, and community music programs, including work with the Freedom Singers. Last year he became involved with the LA Kadampa Buddhist community and quickly found ways to contribute there as well. He helped with audio and technical projects, built a new AV system for the Kadampa center in Palm Springs, worked with the New York City center on its website, and was editing a new audiobook for Tharpa Publications at the time of his hospitalization.
What connects these communities is Eric's sincere wish to help and contribute. Eric continually found himself supporting the work of others and helping build the conditions for people and communities to thrive.
His recovery is expected to be long and uncertain. Between his ongoing hospitalization, anticipated heart surgery, rehabilitation, and an extended absence from work, the financial impact of this medical crisis is difficult to predict. Like many people who build a career through a combination of projects, contracts, and specialized technical work, Eric's income depends on his ability to be present and working. This fundraiser has been created to help cover medical expenses, living costs, rehabilitation needs, lost income, and the many unexpected expenses that accompany a prolonged recovery.
For everyone who has supported us: thank you. Your kindness has helped carry us through an extraordinarily challenging time.
