Eric is a true Melanoma Warrior.
I am heartbroken. I have asked my friends to pray for Eric a many times in the last 9 years, since he began battling melanoma. Yesterday hospice was brought on board to make him as comfortable as possible.
Since diagnosis Eric has spent his time educating others, and making sure that those who would not otherwise have access to a dermatologist, receive that care. He took an old school bus, converted it into a state of the art mobile dermatologist lab, and secured the volunteered time of three dermatologists to run it. Mole Patrol is what they named the bus.
If Eric had anything to say in these last few days, he would say use sunblock, stay out of tanning beds, there is no safe tan, melanoma is "not" just skin cancer as it is deadly and can spread to all organs. Get your skin checked. Anyone can get melanoma. Sunburns as a youngster can come back to haunt you as an adult. Protect your child's skin. Protect your skin.
Eric has been all over the country, had every treatment, participated in every trial out there, and never complained. He has fought with class and courage to this day. I love this family, Eric, his wife Shameka, their two sons, who live in California, his sister Heidi, his mom Penny, who lives in Oregon ..... Penny has given her heart and soul to melanoma, it's causes, cures, fundraisers, and then the care and running of Eric's household.
Please pray that Eric and his family will have much peace, calm, love, and comfort in the next few days.
You have definitely left your mark on the world Eric Martin!
