Eric Hauser was an essential and much-loved presence in the Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts community for 25 years, lending his expertise to many departments but leaving an indelible impression on the music department. He always worked closely with the choir conductor and guided countless students, encouraging them to believe in themselves and helping them give their very best to the school and the community.
In addition to his time as a Carter teacher, as Julia's husband and as proud father to Francesca and James, Eric has spent decades contributing to the music ministry of various church communities: St Justin Martyr in Markham, Blessed Trinity, St Edward the Confessor, St Bonaventure, St Patrick's, Precious Blood and many more.
His musical talent is only matched by his kindness; he is always willing to lend a hand in whatever way is needed. He is quiet and gentle by nature, always giving so much of himself to others, whether through his teaching, his family, his music, his church or his many friendships. Countless weddings and funerals all over the GTA have been enriched by Eric's talent and personality.
Recently Eric was diagnosed with ALS, a rare, fatal neurodegenerative disease that causes the progressive loss of both upper and lower motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. Watch Eric's story here: Eric on CTV taking about his condition
Sadly, ALS brings enormous challenges, not only for the person diagnosed, but for their entire family. As the disease progresses, specialized equipment, home modifications, caregiving and additional support can become increasingly costly. Eric's condition is progressing faster than anticipated and he is in need of many medical devices and home accommodations that are not paid for by OHIP or insurance plans.
Eric is in need of the same help he has so willingly given to others over the years. All monies collected will go directly to Eric and his family to help with rising medical costs during this challenging time.
Please consider sharing this fundraiser with former colleagues, former students or their families, parishioners, and anyone whose life has been touched by Eric.
