Support Eric Dzus recover from a critical accident
Donation protected
Hello Everyone - my name is Anita Dzus-Spady and I am fundraising for my brother Eric who was in a terrible vehicle accident on June 30th that has permanently changed his life.
Eric was found by Lloydminster RCMP after the vehicle he was driving rolled. He was then airlifted via STARS Air Ambulance from the Lloydminster Hospital to the U of A Hospital where he remains today in ICU. He has sustained numerous injuries to his spinal cord that will prevent him from using his legs again, has several broken ribs, a broken shoulder, collapsed lung, and will likely require a ventilator to assist his breathing for the rest of his life. At this time it is unclear whether or not there has been a brain injury.
As many of you know, our family recently lost our dear sister and daughter Belinda in May and we are still struggling to deal with her loss. Now with Eric's accident and unknown future, we are seeking help as we help him navigate his new reality. The funds collected here will be used to assist Eric in healing and purchase items that he requires going forward. The costs for equipment and materials for daily life are astronomical and it is unknown whether anything will be covered.
The length of time he will be in the hospital is unknown but could be upwards of a year or longer with physio and rehabilitation. The next step is for him to recover enough to be moved from ICU to a regular trauma ward and from there a rehabilitation facility.
The family has also needed to travel back and forth between Edmonton and Paradise Valley where Eric's mom Eleanor lives and continues to care for foster children. Other family members have taken time off work to care for Eric and help make further arrangements for his daily care.
The costs are adding up and we are reluctantly asking the community for help at this time. Any amount is appreciated - there is nothing too small. Thank you so much for your support.
