Eric Daniel Stroke Recovery Fund

On August 15, 2023, our beloved Eric suffered a major stroke at the age of 44. It has affected his left side leaving him with blindness in that eye, difficulty speaking, and the inability to move his left arm or leg. Prior to this devastating event, Eric was an active man with a passion for life, including his longstanding career as an animal trainer at Shedd Aquarium; traveling with his love, Laura; cooking; riding his bike; spending time with friends/family; enjoying a glass of wine with his favorite feline friend, Gouda, on his lap; and seeing as many independent films as possible.

This health crisis has led to a lot of heartache as well as the daunting task of months of intensive physical therapy and looming financial burdens. After multiple brain surgeries, Eric will need to relearn how to walk, speak, and perform self-care tasks. The road ahead is long and grueling — many accommodations will be required for a successful recovery, and we want to give him the best chance possible. If he cannot regain full use of his left side, he may not be able to return to work due to the physical requirements of his job.

My name is Nicole, and I'm Eric's cousin. I will be transferring your generous contributions directly to him. While Eric does have insurance, the extended hospital stay along with the home care and extensive therapies he will need could end up costing thousands above and beyond what insurance will cover. The money donated will help supplement those out-of-pocket charges for what will likely be many months of rehab.
