Eric Chase Memorial Fund

Donation protected

My name is Akasha (Chrissie Hogen-Esch), and I am setting up this GoFundMe at the request of Chase's husband CJ (Halowen).

After enduring nearly two years of pain with what was thought to be an ulcer, then thought to be Gastroparesis, only to discover in early July that he actually had a rare type of stomach cancer (stage 4 at this point) that had progressed to an incurable level, on July 29, 2021 - this amazing soul passed onto the next realm.

Chase (Eric) was a warm and loving being. He touched soo many people in his personal and professional life. The memories of our dear friend, brother, son and husband live on in us as we share our memories of happier times with Chase.

Chase was fortunate to be able to legally marry his husband a few days before his passing in a sweet hospital bedside ceremony. CJ and Chase had been spiritually married and committed to each other for over 15 years, and anyone that had the privilege of being with both men together understand that their love was deep and true. When Chase called me to break the news of the biopsy results he had been waiting for, he asked one thing - to please look after CJ and help him through this.

That is the main purpose of this GoFundMe.

What the funds raised will be used for:

~After Chase passed, CJ was locked out of accessing the bank account - a common event that happens with major banks. This has made things like paying rent and other bills impossible to do. Cj still needs to pack up the apartment in order to move, which will take a month or two. He needs help making rent through at least September.

~When Chase was in the hospital, their only vehicle blew a head gasket rendering it unusable. CJ will need another vehicle to get around Colorado, and to also make his move back to Hayward, CA. - if you have a serviceable used vehicle you may be able to donate, please contact me. Otherwise we will need to find an inexpensive vehicle to buy for CJ.

~CJ will be moving back to Hayward, CA with his sisters. Moving across states is quite expensive. Moving trucks, movers, gas, transportation for CJ and the kitties, and renting a storage unit in CA are all the known expenses for this move, but there may be more costs that come up during the process. When Chase & CJ moved out to CO, North Face provided the financial support for that transition. Right now, CJ does not have that same level of support for moving back to CA.

~There will be two memorials offered to honor Chase - one in Colorado and one in California. These services also cost money to put together. There are significant costs involved with end of life care and memorials.

CJ only receives a few hundred dollars a month from disability, Chase was the main income earner in their household. His financial need is likely greater than the starting goal of this campaign. Please share this page widely to anyone who ever knew Chase. I know his heart would be warmed and he would be eternally grateful for any support you are able to provide.
