Family Fundraiser: For Eric Carsten Med Expenses

Donation protected
My cousin (Eric Carten) was involved in a terrible car accident on Sept 14th. With the families permission I am putting together this fundraiser to help cover some of the overwhelming medical expenses. This account is registered to Eric and his wife Nita I just built the page. All money raised will go directly to their bank account in their name. If you know Eric and Nita they would give you the shirt off their back and have helped so many people in the past so now is time for others to help them. So here's the info:

Sept 14, 2023 Early this afternoon, WTFD Rescue Engine 72 and Chief 72 responded mutual aid to assist the Morin Point FD with a motor vehicle accident on NB I-75 @ MM2. The single driver in the SUV struck the rear of a semi trailer. The driver was pinned in vehicle with significant injuries to their lower extremities requiring heavy extrication tools (Jaws of Life) to remove patient from vehicle. The patient required the transport via an air ambulance to a local trauma center in Toledo.

(They just got a bill for $22,000 for life flight! The Yukon had liability and is a total loss, hospital bills are piling up. They have set up payment plans and applied for help but it mainly involves lifelong payments, so any help to cover expenses would be a blessing)

Sept 15 from Nita (Erics wife) I almost lost Eric yesterday, if not for God intervening. He was on his way to a bass tournament in Michigan and was in a terrible accident. He hit the back of a semi. I found out through Life 360 and Talia, Rochelle, Emily and Tyler making many calls to find him. I had a bad feeling about it and went to pieces. They life flighted him to Toledo Hospital. He has a broken tibia in his left leg, a dislocation in his right knee with torn or injured ligaments(after the surgery,) they are not sure if that is quite as bad as the doctor thought. MRI tomorrow. He broke his left arm near the shoulder(he is left handed.) Has a huge gash above his left eye, just missing the eyeball by a small amount. Somehow, he does not have any internal injuries. Thank God! All was repaired today. If the ligaments are torn, he will have to have reconstructive surgery on that leg a little later. We have all had many tears. Eric is truly one of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. Everyone loves him, especially ME!!
Sept 17 He sounds good, but unfortunately the MRI he had yesterday showed his left leg has a fracture in the knee and his MCL, ACL and meniscus are torn, so he will need more surgery. The right leg is doing well, as is his shoulder repair. They did another X-ray of his head to double check that there aren’t any bones fractured around his eye. There aren’t any, so the doctor said it involves only the tissue and will just take time

Sept 25 Eric update: He is being transferred to rehab about 4PM today. He will be going to Buckeye Care and Rehabilitation 1900 E. Main Street Lancaster, OH 43130 So happy he is coming back to Columbus!

Oct 5 Eric Update: Eric is working hard in rehab. I was able to go with him yesterday. All of the physical therapists are super nice! We are very pleased with Buckeye so far. It is 45 minutes from home but worth the drive, as he is receiving good care. We are hoping Ohio Orthopedic Center will take him as a patient. I feel they will. They want to see all of his records and X-rays. We finally got the cds today from Toledo Hospital. Sherry, the gal in charge, took them to Ohio Orthopedic herself. Hopefully, Eric will be able to get the surgery he needs soon.

He has his laptop and is working again, with a few naps here and there. He can use his left hand quite a bit now. He is off pain meds except Tylenol 3. He enjoys visitors. You know him!

We appreciate all of the prayers, cards, calls and love from everyone! They have been so comforting. I will update again when we have more info on the left leg surgery. Nita

(Insurance has a $7000 deductible and only covers 70% of therapy costs, there are numerous uncovered deductibles as well. Unfortunately the rehab facility willing to accept his insurance is 45 min drive for Nita so the transportation costs will be a large expense as well.).
