Eric and Mel Finding Safety

I'm Eric, and life recently got wild for my partner Mel and myself, as well as our two cats. Starting in May 2025, I managed to help Mel and our two cats escape a deadly and abusive living situation in Ohio that spanned over 7 years with the intent of getting her to Michigan temporarily, but ultimately the goal is to move her to Canada to live with me and my family. Currently, Mel and I are lacking consistent work and need help covering our living expenses while we sort out getting her to Canada. Mel is disabled (Audhd, HEDS, and brain lesions from covid), and my family and I are her only support system.

The story here is that her own family subjected her to human trafficking as a kid, shopping her around to family friends as child labor, a live-in maid, and at one point they even tried to make a quick buck by selling her. Later in life, the one "friend" she had through all that became her medical caretaker and for the past 7 years said caretaker subjected her to starvation with one meal a day, threats, physical violence, and they even made sure that Mel could not get ID so that she would not be able to work, build up her own finances or leave. During this time period, Mel was also forced to live with room mates that beat her, dislocated her hip and shoulder multiple times, one admitted to actively poisoning her, and they even let her go into full liver failure without taking her to the hospital. It's a miracle I so much as got to meet Mel, to fall in love with her, and to have the opportunity to try and start our life together.

However, at this point, we're stuck because Mel's abusers kept her from getting ID to keep her isolated so that they could continue making money off her disabilities. We're in a loop of waiting for people to get back to us about starting various ID processes so that we can have her cross into Canada and to start a sponsorship for immigration.

We need help, any little bit we can get. Right now we're hoping for enough help for groceries and to cover places to stay. If we can reach an end-goal of $5000 USD (around 7k CAD) we're hoping to purchase a used camper so that we can severely cut back on our living costs. Any donations can and will help keep us and our two adorable cats going.
