TOGETHER, WE ARE TOUGHER THAN CANCER. We, the friends of John Ryan Lajarca in Canada—his other family away from home, are united to stand beside him on this battle of his. Ryan, as how everyone fondly calls him, has been an active member of our small community group in Merritt, BC for a year now. From the time he moved here with his wife and kids, he has already gained a good reputation of being a reliable and trustworthy person to everyone—someone who’s always ready to lend a hand in any way he can and will always try to be there whenever help is needed.
Now that he is faced with a big challenge, we are in turn united to make sure that he will not be fazed in overcoming it. Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma, one of the rarest types of big C, may have hit his nasopharyngeal cavity for now, but we will never let it strike his heart even in the slightest way for him to even think of giving up. We all face adversity from time to time, but some of us are able to flourish when things get difficult (while others struggle with their roadblocks in life)—this is how we wanted to fight with Ryan—to find ways for beautiful things to happen out of a situation that would’ve been difficult for someone who might be facing the problem alone.
Together, we are tougher than cancer. Ryan is currently undergoing an aggressive treatment through a weekly chemotherapy session and a 7-week radiation therapy course. Though as strong as everyone believes he is, the effects of the treatment courses start to take the best of him, thus limiting him from keeping his current job. He generates income in a very noble way out of helping elderlies in an assisted living facility; however now, needless to say, his work has been greatly impacted. Although he receives help and support from the government to lighten up his burden, being in this situation doesn’t help him to really save up enough to provide for his family, being the pillar of it. And this is where we feel we could better help to not let his morale down and to further propel him forward to keep going until he finishes this battle.
In this stand, as his second family, we humbly ask for your help to uphold a strong spirit of compassion as we implore your generosity to help us come up with additional funds for our dear Ryan. In this season of love and giving, we would greatly appreciate any help, regardless of the amount, that comes from your heart.
Let our collective act of simple kindness be his weapon to surpass every obstacle that he is or would be facing, and our big hearts be an open source of his strength to beat his toughest foe.
