ER vet bill for stray dog hit by a car
Donation protected
Short version: I saw a dog get hit by a car, took him to the vet, and once he was stable, took him to the shelter.
LONG version: Today on HWY 74, I saw two stray dogs walking along the road. I watched them as I drove by to make sure they didn’t run out in front of me. Then after I passed, I kept looking in my rearview mirror to make sure they didn’t walk into the road… but of course, they did. The black lab/pit mix was hit by a car (not run over luckily) and he spun and then tumbled into the grassy median. The brown/white dog was not hit. I quickly made a U-turn and pulled over. The brown/white dog had run off by the time I got there. This poor boy was luckily not dead and had no visible large open wounds, mainly cuts around his paws/legs. He was in a lot of shock and was just laying in the grass. I didn’t know what to do; I didn’t want to pick him up and accidentally hurt him or get bitten. Luckily, two wonderful ladies pulled up and were quick to help. I was shaking so bad, I could barely search on my phone for shelters/vets nearby. They took over that for me. I eventually got a blanket out of my car and happened to have a ratchet strap that I made into a loop leash. We got him under the blanket and used it as a sling to carry him to my car. I took him to Skyline Veterinary Clinic (they were amazing) and had him treated. Luckily, no broken bones and no internal bleeding. Once they stabilized him, I was able to take him to Charlotte Animal Care & Control. I could not keep him as I have two of my own dogs.
I am asking for help to cover the cost of his vet visit and treatment they did today. It was a little over $600. Luckily, another wonderful woman at the vet heard what happened and donated $100. I am just asking for donations to cover the rest of the bill. I was not financially prepared for this, but I obviously did not want to leave him there to suffer. ANY amount would help me out.
What about the person that hit him, you ask? Well, that asshole did not stop or pull over. I believe that they did not slow down or even attempt to brake. I believe this is true because there was another car right beside the car that hit them and I noticed that they slowed down after the dogs darted out into the road. If they were PAYING ATTENTION TO THEIR SURROUNDINGS, they would have known to slow down in case they ran into the road.
