Equipping our Rangers!

Keswick Red Squirrel Group is a small group of local people who are passionate about protecting our red squirrel population in this area of the Lake District.  The native red squirrel is an endangered species, mainly due to the deadly pox from the grey squirrel, a non native species which carries the pox but is not affected by it.

We hope to engage with our local community, and visitors to the area, to increase awareness of the plight of our red squirrels and to see if people would like to support our work in any way.

Our team is almost entirely voluntary and our rangers are often self-funding in terms of feeders, cameras and  travel costs, as some examples.

Our original fundraising campaign was to raise funds urgently needed for food as each feeder costs £100 per year to maintain.  Thanks to our supporters' kind donations to date, we are now in a much better position to be able to purchase food for the medium term and have therefore refocussed our fundraising efforts to equip our rangers in the broader sense.   By this we are thinking about feeders, cameras as well as traps where these are considered useful.

We appreciate any contribution you are able to make. Every feeder we set up and everything we do to help our rangers in their work helps us protect our red squirrels so on behalf of them, we say thank you very much!
