My names Kim and I am fundraising for my brother in law Andy Baker.
He woke up Jan 2nd 2017 having lost the feeling in his legs only to be diagnosed with anaplastic-ependymoma, a rare cancer of the spine and brain at the age of 35. He under went a 10hour operation where the surgeons were only able to remove less than 20% of the tumour.
Andy has undergone different types of chemo and radiotherapy over these 2 years to no avail. He has been left paralysed from the chest down and has lost the mobility in his left arm and hand and now is having difficulty with his right side. He is a full time wheelchair user but is currently bed bound and has been since August due to a debilitating pressure sore. There is no more treatment options for Andy so we want Andy to come home and be as comfortable as possible.
As a result of Andys diagnosis they are now unable to continue fostering which they began doing at the end of 2015 and very much loved.
My sister is caring for Andy full-time so the time away from work for both of them will have financial implications , due to the equipment they will now need to accommodate Andy's disability. Andy is currently residing in the Wisdom Hospice for some much needed respite and is receiving impeccable
care. If and when andy returns home he
will need a turning bed to continue care of his pressure wounds which can cost in access of £5000. This is because the bed and other much needed pieces of equipment are NOT available to him on the NHS in our borough.
Andy is a respected Fire arms officer within the Met and his passion is Brazilian Ju Jitsu where he has competed to a national level in which he has achieved Gold and bronze at the English Open, bronze in the British open and silver in a regional championship.
Please Please give whatever you can to help meet the target to enable Andy, Belle and Louie to get through this testing time without the added worry of financial stress.
