Campaign Story: Help us grow EquiPhysics Institute, a new 501(c)(3) research and education nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the science of equine physiology, including movement, breathing, and cardiovascular function.

We study how horses move, breathe, and adapt over time—particularly in response to stress, rehabilitation, and retraining. One focus of our current research is understanding persistent gait asymmetries in off-the-track Thoroughbreds (OTTBs) and how retraining and bodywork affect long-term recovery.

Our work is grounded in biomechanics, mathematics, and data science, using tools such as inertial measurement units (IMUs), heart rate monitors, respiratory sensors, and high-speed video. We are based at the University of Arizona's Al-Marah Equine Center but are forming an independent nonprofit to ensure this work can continue and grow. The nonprofit model allows us to involve community volunteers, train the next generation of scientists, and reach across disciplines.
