Did you know that almost all people with physical disabilities or age-related issues never get the opportunity to fully participate in the wonderful restorative activity of recreational fishing, sailing, and boating because of problems with boarding, usage, and lavatory access?

I am a manager fundraising for Shannon River Marine Heritage Foundation whose mission is to improve the quality of life for our servicemen and women who have been wounded mentally or physically over the course of their duties by providing access to boating and fishing outings aboard a fully accessible 37' boat, "Spirit of Pilar". These outings offer much more than just a day on the water; they provide a peaceful environment where our veterans can relax, bond with others, and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of the sea. It's a small gesture of appreciation for their service, but one that can make a big difference in their lives.

THE STORY OF "SPIRIT"
For 5 years, "Spirit" has been in Florida, located at Shake-A-Leg Miami, taking paralyzed veterans for free and others with disabilities out on the water. After falling into disrepair after a storm and during Covid, we brought "Spirit" to Rhode Island to be updated and refurbished. Thanks to the generosity of our many friends, "Spirit" is a beautiful boat once more, back in the water at Northeast Maritime Institute at Slocum Cove in Fairhaven, Massachusetts and ready for work. We now have a volunteer driver with accessible van to transport veterans to and from the boat, and a volunteer licensed captain on standby. But sadly, during the trip north, all fishing gear, life jackets, boat chairs and much needed safety equipment was stolen.

To make this project a reality, we need your support. Your contributions will help us procure the necessary equipment and cover operational and maintenance costs: $35 will fill the fuel tank for one 2-hour boat ride, $200 will pay for one life jacket for people of all ages with disabilities, $1000 will buy a mattress and linens for a sleep afloat experience, $200 will buy one angler cockpit chair, or just $10 will help to keep "Spirit" well maintained and working.

Your contribution, no matter what size, will go directly towards ensuring that our veterans have a safe and enjoyable experience on the water. Additionally, if you know of others who may be interested in supporting this cause, share this message with them.

Thank you for considering this request and for your continued support of our veterans and others of all ages with disabilities. Together, we can provide them with the opportunity to enjoy the tranquility and camaraderie that boating and fishing can offer.
