My name is Ann Reighard and I live in Manassas, VA.  I have been a colleague and friend of Sally's for almost 20 years - that's hard to believe!  For those of you who know Sally, you know that this is the last thing she would ever want.  She is all about helping others, giving, sharing, and lending support where she can.  I first met Sally when she was my maternity sub in 2000.  She stepped into my classroom and started the school year, relieving my mind of every worry I may have had and allowing me to focus on my newborn.  I know that everyone has stories of the kindnesses that Sally has shown them throughout her life, and creating this gofundme project is my small way to give back. Personally, Sally has supported every cause  that I've ever posted about:  She was an annual Book Angel, ensuring that each of my first graders received one new book a month, something many of them could never afford.  When we needed dice and playing cards for at-home math games, Sally drove up from Richmond to bring some.  Whenever she was in town, she would make time to stop by my classroom and read a few of her favorite stories to my students, never coming without a small gift for each of them.  She donated money to purchase Girl Scout cookies from a former student of mine and asked that the cookies be placed in the teachers lounge!  She helped fund DonorChoose projects for flexible seating and getting Kindles in the classroom, and even sent support when my mother in law needed help and when we organized a walk for a fellow teacher who was battling cancer.  Without even knowing them, she didn't think twice about giving.  So now it's our turn.

Sally's children love their mother so much and as if having a parent battling cancer isn't bad enough, now with Covid-19, they can't even be with her in the hospital.  As her condition gradually worsens, it is their wish to bring her home to spend the remaining time that she has surrounded by the love of her family and pet.  The costs associated with the medical supplies needed to make her comfortable at home, as well as the need for daily skilled care, is beyond their means.  Adding to that is the burden of the end of life expenses that will eventually come.

It is hard to know just how much money is needed to offset these costs and allow her beautiful children to see to her needs and beyond, without financial worry.  If you can help in any way, it would be deeply appreciated.  Sally lived a life of service to her students, her family and anyone else that she met along the way.  Please join me in supporting her at a time when she and her family need it most.  

As we conclude this fundraiser, I have transferred the beneficiary of the funds to Sally's daughter, Sara Self.  She will withdraw the funds to cover the costs of immediate Sally's medical needs and her end of life expenses that will follow.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generous donations.
