Loving Refugees in Lesvos, Greece
Donation protected
My name is Andrew Parkin, and on January 4th I will be heading to Lesvos, Greece to work with refugees who land ashore there every day after a perilous journey across the waters of the Aegean Sea. These people have given up everything and fled their war-torn homelands in search for safety. I will be spending a total of 36 days there, during which time I will be serving and loving on these people.
My work will primarily consist of helping people get from the rafts on the shore to the help tents, as well as organizing and giving out food and dry clothes to people. The refugees who come through Lesvos will be transitioning through the checkpoint there before they continue on their journey to find safe haven and a better life for themselves and their families.
Most of us will never experience anything like this in our lifetimes, so we often taken for granted our lives, free from the intense strife, violence, and subsequent hopelessness and desperation experienced by these refugees. As a follower of Christ, I am called to be the hands and feet of Jesus to the hopeless. So, I am choosing to love instead of fear, following Jesus instead of comfort and security.
I have already been blessed to receive some donations, but I still need $2000 to cover the cost of food, lodging, and travel for the time I will be volunteering, from January 4th to February 8th.
Thank you, much love, and God
Bless,
Andrew
